This is the completed version of this sketch. Thanks for those of you who stopped by the Livestream a few days ago! Unfortunately my Mac is low on RAM and I can't add any more, so I'll have to deal with the slow processing speed and the bad combination of this and Photoshop CS4 with the Procaster. :(

Anyhow, this is what I'm imagining we'll see within a few episodes... Korra's already very quick to anger, and is not against using force, so I'm sure when she enters Avatar state, she will be brutal and unrestrained, to put it best. I can only think that the Equalists, having captured Bolin from what it seems in the recent previews, will use Korra's emotional attachment to him to get her into a state such as this. Who knows, it'll be interesting!

Being new to the Avatar universe, I'm a bit unfamiliar with bending, and painting the effects, haha. Parts of the fire came from this texture. I believe the grungy texture in the background is something I just had on my computer... sorry. :/

Please COMMENT if you like this work. I appreciate one o' those much more than just a :+fav:. Tell me what you like, what you don't like, what you HATE, I don't care. This way I can get better! Thanks, and enjoy!

Okay.
Now that's just awesome. Unfortunately though, one thing is bothering me a little; with the power Korra is depicted to show, it doesn't really carry out, at least in the stance. I don't know if it's just her clothes, or what she is about to do, but to me it looks like she is merely showing off and not attacking. Maybe add a bit more life to her, namely in Korra's elbows and knees.
I am nowhere near an expert in martial arts, but with the stance she is in almost all of her force would not take as much affect as it should (bending or not). That doesn't mean that the piece DOES show power, because it really does, but there are quite a few tweaks you can play around with to make this so much better. For the stance, I recommend widening the legs only slightly, though if it's just the angle Korra is in I apologize.

However, looking at reference ALWAYS helps if you want that extra edge in your work.

One thing I really want to add, though: the coloring is spectacular, namely the background. It conveys a powerful spiritual feeling, almost vague and eerie in a way. It truly fits with the Avatar State, and the effects on the fire and water are really pretty. I don't know why, but I love the way some of the water kind of wraps around Korra's hand. This is just a suggestion if you mean it to be water, add a bit more of a transparent or shiny effect to it. However, not too much, for I believe it is a good idea to keep the sort of vagueness as the background. Compared with the glow of the fire it would make the water look equally as beautiful.

Once again, wonderful work. Korra is an amazing character, and you've done her justice.
